Egypt recently issued a new garment testing procedures decree

Egypt has recently promulgated a new decree on testing and inspection procedures for imported textiles and clothing.

the ordinance, which came into effect on June 15 this year, applies to imported garments, linen textiles, yarns, carpets, floor coverings and home textiles. In addition, the decree limits the formaldehyde content of infant clothing to 20PPM (parts per million), the formaldehyde content of direct contact skin clothing to 75PPM, and the formaldehyde content of zero contact skin clothing to 300PPM.

It is understood that after the implementation of the new regulations, textiles and clothing imported into Egypt must submit an inspection certificate issued by an approved inspection company. The submission should include the quantity, value, country of manufacture, name and address of the factory, trademark licensed by the exporter, etc. In addition, it is necessary to include a laboratory report as evidence that the goods comply with Egyptian quality standards and regulations. The new decree prohibits the import of clothing containing carcinogenic dyes, harmful dyes, flame retardants and cadmium.
